Tour FAQ:
What is your curriculum like?

At Alcuin Montessori School, children learn at their own pace, immersing in subjects and activities designed to develop much more than academic skills. They develop a love of learning that prepares them to excel in the next level of education and beyond.  It's no surprise that a large percentage of our graduates take advanced placement courses in high school.  Click here to view our Curriculum Benchmark Document.  Click here to read our Middle School FAQ.

What is your admissions process?
Our admissions process is laid out fully here.

Are you accredited?
  • American Montessori Society - Full Accredited Member
  • Independent Schools Association of Central States - Full Accredited Member We are the only ISACS (Independent Schools Association of the Central States) and American Montessori Society-accredited (AMS) school in the near Western suburbs.

How many classrooms do you have?
We have three Primary (ages 3-6) rooms, two Junior Elementary (1st-3rd grade), one Senior Elementary (4th-6th grade), and one Middle School (7th and 8th grade).

Does my three-year-old need to be potty trained?
Yes, students in the Primary program must be potty trained.

My child has a food allergy. How do you handle that?
For the safety of all children, Alcuin is a nut-free building.  Additionally, children who require epi-pens must bring two to the school (one for the office and one for the classroom) along with an allergy action plan.  For children with multiple allergies or more complicated cases, a parent/teacher meeting is had prior to their start.

Yes, we have before care from 7:15-8:30 a.m. and after care from 11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m. Additionally, elementary rooms have the option to drop-in to after care by purchasing a time card.

Our Core Beliefs
Montessori is a relationship-based community. We believe Education for Life may be found in the following:
  • Curiosity
    We celebrate children’s awe of everything around them. Places, things, ideas — we help them explore it all.
  • Learning
    We follow children’s curiosities to lead to deeper knowledge and personal connection to what they learn. And then we help apply what they’ve learned continuously to other subjects, topics and life.
  • Challenge
    We broaden the learning environment so our children can continually push the fence over to explore new territory and test their growing potential.
  • Dialogue
    We inspire our children to question everything, express themselves and respect and consider diverse responses and ideas — so they can learn more holistically and inclusively.
  • Leadership
    We promote their confidence to show others the way when they know it and let others lead us when they don’t.
  • Love
    We show love and encourage children’s love of themselves, family, communities and our world by expressing respect, empathy, compassion and generosity.
At Alcuin:
  • each child feels secure and loved;
  • happiness and joy reign;
  • children receive a personalized education that is custom tailored to their specific needs; and
  • a true partnership exists between child, family, and teacher.
