Parent Volunteer Program (PVP)

Alcuin's PVP encourages and facilitates family support of the school. When parents volunteer just a bit of their time and talent, wonderful things happen. For instance, the classroom is extended beyond the campus; a diversity of cultures is experienced and treasured; students can be the focus of interaction instead of the preparation of the classroom; knowledge and expertise are shared; and a community is strengthened. We are proud of the many opportunities available for parents to be actively involved in our school community.   The administration, teachers and staff, Board of Trustees, parents and students strongly support parental involvement in all facets of school life.  Plus, it is a great way to get to know our community!

PVP volunteer options include:

• Carpool Door Greeters: This team has one of the most important and fulfilling roles in our community. They greet children every day! Door greeting begins the Tuesday after Labor Day and finishes on the last day of school. Team members facilitate morning carpool for 15 minutes. Pick one day a week (or more) or sign up as a substitute. A great way to get to know our entire community.  Time Frame: Labor Day till the first week in June.
• Fun Walk: Help plan the Fun Walk in May. The Fun Walk (scheduled for May 1, 2027) is a two-fold event; the first part is a popcorn fundraiser through Double Good the week prior to the walk. The second part of the Fun Walk is the live event at Lindberg Park. Help with walk day set up, emailing classrooms to encourage participation, and reaching out to potential Fun Walk sponsors for day-of-walk entertainment. Time Frame: March through May. 
• Library Team: Do you love books? Consider joining the Library Team. We need help with re-shelving and checking in new books, as well as occasional library upkeep in the Main Campus libraries. Flexible hours.  Time Frame: Ongoing throughout the school year, as needed.
• School Gardens: Do you have a green thumb?  Are gardens your passion? The Main Campus and Roosevelt Campus gardens would love to have your attention.  Help with weeding, planting, sowing, and general maintenance throughout the year in our raised bed gardens.  Time Frame: Spring/summer/fall, as needed.
• Cultural Festival: A parent favorite, the Cultural Festival (scheduled for mid-May) combines classroom museums with beautiful performances in Fellowship Hall. Duties include assisting with overseeing music, entertainment, food, and activities based upon international regions, cultures, etc. Time Frame: February through May.
• School Spirit and Connections Team: The School Spirit and Connections Team’s primary role is to facilitate community building between parents, faculty, and staff at Alcuin by providing opportunities for the entire community to gather and take part in, including Work Parties, Teacher Appreciation, and Room Parent events. 
  • The Teacher Appreciation Team is responsible for organizing activities for Alcuin teaching and administrative staff in order to express the community's appreciation for their hard work and dedication to our children. This includes the Back-to-School Staff Brunch (in late August) and Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3rd-7th, 2027).
  • The Work Party Team help with work parties once a month (usually on the second or third Wednesday of the month) at the Roosevelt Campus. Parents gather from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. and work on classroom materials for teachers; it may include cutting, laminating, sewing, and lettering. Time Frame: September through May.
  • Room Parent: Room Parents serve as another bridge between the school and the class families. Room parents’ main tasks are communicating with class families and planning out-of-school events for the class families to socialize and build community. Time Frame: Ongoing throughout the school year, as needed.
• School Picture Day: Volunteers assist during school picture day at both campuses. Volunteers help escort classrooms to and from the photo staging area, adjust hair or close, and help with the flow of the morning. Time Frame: One day, early October.
• Ad Hoc Team: There are times when we require parent volunteers, and don’t realize it until the need is upon us. This could include things like field trip chaperone, photos, Goings Out, all-school events, picture day, swim drivers, or various classroom projects. If you’d like to help out during those times, we’d love to have you on board. Time Frame: Ongoing as needed throughout the school year.
