Parent Volunteer Program (PVP)

We are proud of the many opportunities available for parents to be actively involved in our school community.   The administration, teachers and staff, Board of Trustees, parents and students strongly support parental involvement in all facets of school life.  Plus, it is a great way to get to know our community!

PVP volunteer options include:
  • Annual Auction & Gala: The Auction & Gala event is a wonderful way to get out for a lovely evening and get to know other parents in the community.  There are so many ways to help, from gathering donations for the auction to planning the event.  The auction committee begins its planning in September and ends its work in May.  Subcommittees include: online auction, live auction, donations, marketing, food/beverage, entertainment, and raffle.  This committee is a sure way to find new friends among other Alcuin parents.
  • Door Greeters: This team has one of the most important and fulfilling roles in our community.  They greet children every day!  Door greeting begins the Tuesday after Labor Day and finishes on the last day of school.  Team members facilitate the 20 minute morning carpool every morning.  A great way to get to know our community.
  • Library Team: Do you love books?  Consider joining the Library Team.  We need help with re-shelving and checking in new books, as well as occasional library upkeep.  Flexible hours.
  • Community Events Team:  This dynamic team anchors our school year between two extraordinary events that bring the community together: the Beginning of the Year All-School and End of the Year Outdoor Gathering.  Participation ranges from securing the park location and proper permits, promoting the event, planning activities and submitting photos for marketing purposes.   The Community Events team may also plan new events during the year such as the Halloween Party, International Day of Peace, Class Breakfasts, Staff Appreciation Day and more.
  • Ad Hoc Volunteer Team:  There are times when we require parent volunteers, and don’t realize it until the need is upon us.  This could include things like field trip chaperone, social media photos, picture day, or various classroom projects. If you’d like to help out during those times, we’d love to have you on board.

Parent volunteers do a lot of the heavy lifting at the school and help in meaningful ways.  As parent volunteers, we model for our children the behavior of giving freely of our time and the importance of giving the gift of service to a community we believe in.  One of our goals is to find something for each parent to do.  Schedules are difficult and present a moving target.  Talents and interests are widely varied.  Matching up the gifts of the families with the needs of the students, the teachers, and the school will be complicated.  Another challenge is to see that no one family is asked to do too much.

Your first step is to fill out this year's PVP form. Many hands make light work, so start thinking now of how you can be active in our community and make your child’s world a better place.
