Sliding Scale Tuition Assistance at Alcuin
At Alcuin Montessori School we value each member of our community and the unique contribution each student makes to our collective excellence. Because Alcuin is committed to remaining accessible and affordable to families from a wide range of economic backgrounds, we use a sliding scale tuition model that applies a tuition range based on each family’s individual circumstances. In addition, we have several tuition payment plans for a small service charge. This service charge is waived for financial aid families.

As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, Alcuin Montessori is primarily funded by tuition and fees, which are used to finance operating costs such as programs, staff salaries, and maintenance of our facilities.

A commitment to inclusion is an essential element of Alcuin’s educational philosophy and school culture. Economic diversity enriches the educational opportunity for all families and participation of a wide range of families is critical to the health of the school.

Will I Qualify?
All families, infant through middle school, wishing to be considered for sliding scale tuition must apply for tuition assistance  as part of the enrollment application process. To help us objectively calculate what a family is able to contribute to educational expenses, families are asked to complete an online application through FAST Grant & Aid Assessment. All supporting documentation must include copies of the previous year's tax return forms for both state and federal taxes and W2s. Families applying for financial aid can request a waiver for their financial aid application fee.

We encourage families to apply if they have concerns about their ability to afford tuition at the highest level. While every family is expected to contribute to the cost of tuition and fees and to support the community to the extent individual family circumstances permit, Alcuin does not expect each tuition level to be the same.

Multiple factors are considered by FAST when evaluating  a family’s ability to pay, including but not limited to: household income, family size, the number of children attending tuition-charging schools, and assets and liabilities not reflected in household income.

To apply for financial aid, please visit the FAST website.  Please note: filling out a FAST application does not take the place of an enrollment application. A financial aid application without an enrollment application or interview/shadow day will not be processed. The enrollment application must be the first step.
Picture
Alcuin families with students re-enrolling:  The deadline for all applications is every February.  Your tax return must follow the submission, and must be submitted by the due date given by Alcuin.  Once both deadlines have passed, families may still apply for aid with the understanding that financial aid offers may not be extended by the time enrollment contracts are due.  Please contact our Finance Assistant with any questions.

For all families: Alcuin cannot determine the award amount (if your family qualifies) until all information is complete. Notification of awards will be communicated once a contract has been offered and received from families.

Sliding Scale Estimator

The following are estimations on what you might pay based on the enrollment of one child.  Amounts will vary based on the enrollment of multiple children.  Families making over $150,000 (with one child) may not qualify depending on their specific financial circumstances.

Affording an Alcuin Montessori Education

Financial aid is awarded by the academic year and award amounts for each family vary from year to year.  You must apply for each school year you want to be considered for financial aid.  In an effort to make the process fair to all, Alcuin Montessori considers the following when making award decisions:

Both parents are expected to contribute to tuition. In the cases where only one income is reported, Alcuin Montessori may ask for more information related to the non-working parent which may affect your award.

In the case of divorce or separation, Alcuin Montessori requires both parents to file an application for financial assistance. In the cases where only one income is reported, Alcuin Montessori may ask for more information related to the non-working parent which may affect your award.  Alcuin Montessori is not bound by any divorce agreement specifying a parent’s responsibility for educational expenses.

Families applying for financial aid may elect to roll their tuition deposit, and fees, into their payment plan, and can receive financial aid for this total amount. Families receiving financial aid will be provided with an award amount. Your child’s financial aid award letter will be considered a permanent legal document after you sign it and submit it, with your signed contract, to the school.
