Sliding Scale, Tuition and Fees
Sliding Scale Tuition Assistance at Alcuin
At Alcuin Montessori School we value each member of our community and the unique contribution each student makes to our collective excellence. Because Alcuin is committed to remaining accessible and affordable to families from a wide range of economic backgrounds, we use a sliding scale tuition model that applies a tuition range based on each family’s individual circumstances. In addition, we have several tuition payment plans for a small service charge.
As a non-profit organization, Alcuin Montessori is primarily funded by tuition and fees, which are used to finance operating costs such as programs, staff salaries, and maintenance of our facilities.
A commitment to inclusion is an essential element of Alcuin’s educational philosophy and school culture. Economic diversity enriches the educational opportunity for all families and participation of a wide range of families is critical to the health of the school.
Will I Qualify?
Families wishing to be considered for sliding scale tuition must apply for tuition assistance as part of the enrollment application process. To help us objectively calculate what a family is able to contribute to educational expenses, families are asked to complete an online application through FAST Grant & Aid Assessment. All supporting documentation can be uploaded in PDF format or mailed to FAST, include copies of the previous year's tax return forms for both state and federal taxes and W2s.
We encourage families to apply if they have concerns about their ability to afford tuition at the highest level. While every family is expected to contribute to the cost of tuition and fees and to support the community to the extent individual family circumstances permit, Alcuin does not expect each tuition level to be the same.
Multiple factors are considered by FAST when evaluating a family’s ability to pay, including but not limited to: household income, family size, the number of children attending tuition-charging schools, and assets and liabilities not reflected in household income. Not all families who qualify for a reduced rate of tuition will be offered the rate for which they qualify.

Alcuin families with students re-enrolling: The deadline for all applications is every February. Your tax return must follow the submission, and must be postmarked by the due date given Once both deadlines have passed, families may still apply for aid with the understanding that financial aid offers may not be extended by the time enrollment contracts are due.
To apply for financial aid, please visit the FAST website. Please note that filling out the financial aid application does not take the place of filling out an admission application. Sliding scale tuition assistance is only available for Primary through Middle School.
Alcuin cannot determine the award amount (if your family qualifies) until all information is complete. Notification of awards will be communicated once a contract has been offered and received.

Affording an Alcuin Montessori Education
Alcuin Montessori School is committed to making awards available to as many eligible applicants as possible. The primary responsibility for financing a student’s education rests with the family, however. We also recognize the need to provide assistance to attract and retain a broad spectrum of students as part of Alcuin's mission.
Financial aid is awarded by the year and award amounts vary from year to year. You must apply for each school year you want to be considered for financial aid. In an effort to make the process fair to all, Alcuin Montessori School considers the following when making award decisions:
Both parents are expected to contribute to tuition. If a parent chooses not to work, Alcuin Montessori School imputes an annual income for a non-working parent.
In the case of divorce or separation, Alcuin Montessori School requires both parents to file an application for financial assistance. Alcuin Montessori School is not bound by any divorce agreement specifying a parent’s responsibility for educational expenses.
Auxiliary fees (entrance/facility fee, time card service, activity fees, service charges, etc.) are not part of the award.
