PRIMARY PROGRAM
This class encourages children to explore, move, and interact socially. It is just right for children who are beginning the move from the family circle to a larger community. The classes are designed to develop social skills, language, motor coordination, perceptual skills, and pre-reading and pre-math concepts. The major areas covered are practical life skills, sensorial, math, language skills, cultural studies and creative arts.
PRIMARY EXTENDED DAY
Extended Day is for the kindergarten age child who is ready to extend their morning work time and has usually completed our Primary half-day program. These children bring lunch and continue their day until 3:00 PM. After recess, children focus attention on complex work with sensorial and practical life materials. The children form cooperative peer relationships and participate in group projects.
PRIMARY DAY HOUSE
Day House incorporates both the Primary and Extended Day structure and is based on Montessori's principle of a respectful and enriching setting for children who spend a larger portion of the day away from home. Two Montessori certified teachers work as a team with support staff in a setting designed for a full day mixed age program. The morning work period for the full age group is followed by a lunch and recess period. During the afternoon period the three to four year olds have a nap/rest period while the four year olds who are ready can continue working at their own developmental level and pace. The Extended Day students work at their academic level, have their own group activities and also experience community leadership. In the late afternoon period, 3:00 to 6:00 PM, the full mixed age group is together for expanded activities, social games or projects in a relaxed, nurturing environment.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Music, art, Spanish and other enrichment programs are integrated into the entire primary curriculum.
